What’s the Difference Between Veneers and Lumineers?

Are you unhappy with your smile? Could your teeth be whiter, or do you have stains that make you feel self-conscious in public?

Many options are available, but some are better than others.

If you have broken, discolored or misshapen teeth, two top cosmetic choices are dental veneers and Lumineers. Either one will give you great results, but you should be aware of the differences.

What are dental veneers?

Porcelain veneers are very thin pieces of durable material placed over your natural teeth.

Veneers are bonded onto the front of teeth and adjusted to fit your mouth so that they look like your natural teeth, but better. They are colored and shaped individually for each patient to maximize a natural look and function.

This technology can dramatically change your appearance and thus, increase your confidence.

Prep work is minor, involving removing enamel to fit the thin veneer over the tooth. They are permanent solutions.

What are Lumineers®?

Lumineers® are also placed over the natural teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. Either veneers or Lumineers®  will whiten and improve your smile.

The difference is that Lumineers® don’t require modification of one’s natural teeth. The teeth are left intact, with original enamel. This means they can be removed if desired. Lumineers® are slightly thinner than veneers.

Which Is right for you?

Both have benefits, but you should consult your dentist to determine whether veneers or Lumineers®  will best fit your lifestyle and your particular dental issues. Some patients prefer the feel of veneers, which others like the convenience of Lumineers®.

Make sure you understand exactly what you are getting when you initiate a dental procedure.
